How to enter your ISBN on KDP and IngramSpark

Amazon KDP

1. Open the book in your KDP bookshelf and go to the format you have an ISBN for. Each format has its own ISBN, so use the one I sent for that format.
2. For a paperback or hardcover, open the Paperback Content (or Hardcover Content) step. Under Print ISBN, choose to use your own ISBN, then paste the ISBN-13.
3. In the publisher field, type Urgesta AS exactly, with that capital U and A and a space. KDP shows this name on Amazon.
4. For an ebook, KDP does not need an ISBN. If you want the ebook ISBN on the book, enter it in the optional ISBN field and use the same publisher name.

IngramSpark

1. Start the title setup and enter the ISBN for that format when the form asks for it.
2. Where the form asks for the publisher or imprint name, type Urgesta AS, the same as on KDP. It has to match the name on the ISBN's Bowker record.
3. Use the same ISBN for the same format on both sites. Do not give the paperback ISBN to the hardcover.

Where the barcode goes on a print cover

Put the barcode image file on the back cover, in the lower right corner, with clear space around it. Keep it inside the safe margin and off the spine and the fold. Leave a white background behind it and do not recolor or stretch it. If you ordered print cover formatting from me, send the ISBN with your Kindle cover and I place the barcode.

Why the ISBN may not show up straight away

I register each ISBN with Bowker before I email it to you. Bowker can take a few days to update the global index that Amazon and bookstores read. Until it does, a search for your ISBN or publisher name can come up empty, and that is normal. Use the Bowker lookup link from my email to check the record. You can publish while you wait, but the publisher name may take a few days to show on the book page.

The limits to remember

• The publisher name shown on Amazon and in bookstore databases is Urgesta AS.
• The ISBN stays with Urgesta AS. It cannot move to your own imprint later. A new imprint means a new ISBN and a new edition.
• Do not put "Dr." or another honorific in the author name. It cannot appear on the Bowker record.
