It's going to tell you how to earn a lot more money than just by ebooks. Let's get right on into it. So the question that was sent to me today was, can you write a book and then publish it as an ebook on your own and make money from it?
In other words, can you make money from ebook? This is an excellent question that many new and upcoming authors are always looking for an answer. They want to know, I've got an idea of an ebook that I can write. But I'm not sure if it's going to be worth the while.
Am I going to make money if I make it as an ebook? Or should I just write and maybe hope that some major publisher would pick it up if I send the manuscript in.
There's a lot of questions about this. Around this whole issue of ebooks and how much money can be made. And I'm hoping that I can answer that question for you today.

Well in my story, I started with ebooks. So, I realized that there was a way that you could make money from ebook.
I had read an ebook. I have been reading ebooks. I've been reading Kindle books.
And some of the Kindle books that I've been getting for free, it even told me, here's how to go about producing your first Kindle book. I saw that and I thought, maybe I would like to give that a try.
So I purchased the book. I began putting the steps into practice. Going step by step through the process of writing a book at about a thousand words a day. Then taking that book and formatting it into an ebook.
Trick With Treats
Throughout the process, getting a cover description of all these sorts of things, I discovered that number one, it's easier than you think it would be. Number two, if you want to make sales, there are some tricks you're going to need to know.
And number three, this is something I wanted to do in the long term. That's what I've been doing for years and 170 books later.
So let's get into the answer. The first answer is, yes, you definitely can make money from your ebooks. That's something that some people are a little bit surprised.
They assume that, well, who would want to read what I have to write? The answer is, there are maybe an awful lot of people who want to see exactly what it is that you wish to write and publish for the entire world to see.
But making money will depend on having a market. This is number two, a market you are writing to, a good cover, reviews, good description, and decent editing.
As you can see, there are many things. And this is where things start to get a little tricky. I'm about making self-publishing easy now and this makes things complicated now.
But the starting point is, you don't have to worry so much about these things. You can do it completely for free, all of the different options. And move through those steps.
The problem is, you probably are not going to make money off of your book if you're not writing in the correct market. I use a program called Jutoh. This is where the secret comes.
It is the fact that you're not going to want to just use your publisher book as an ebook. You're also going to want to have as a paper book or a hardback book.
You're going to want it in Mobi format for your Kindle. Epub for maybe other formats, Drafts2Digital if you want to send it out for them, or Smashwords getting it widely distributed.
Make More Money With Paper Books
So, you have a whole series of options that are available to you with your publishing. The secret is that, you make more money off of the paper books than your ebook.
When you first get started, if you start trying to do paper books and ebooks, the covers for both of these just gets very painful very fast. So, like you were asking, you should start with an ebook. You will make some money from it.
You can use that money to help pay for the next step in the process. If you have some savings or anything else, you can possibly put into it to get that proper cover and using the right tools.
Again I use Kindle Spy to figure out, to make sure the market that I'm publishing is a good one. I also use Jutoh, it's the key tool for being able to take your book and making it into PDFs.
You will need the PDFs to publish it both on Kindle and on just as a Mobi format on Kindle, PDFs for Amazon Print, and IngramSpark. Also for your hardback covers which we will do through Lulu.
But I would not suggest hitting these all at once. I would say one thing at a time.
Start with your first ebook. Get it created. Learn the basic steps and then continue to add on.
So why don't you tell me a little bit about what exactly have you found? Have you found it easy to create your first ebook? Did you make money off of your first ebook?
